Monson provided Civil Engineering design and support during the construction phase of the Kingston Student Living project. The regeneration initiative involved the redevelopment of five listed buildings to create a new student union, multi-purpose function spaces, a start-up business incubator, additional student accommodation, reception and cafeteria facilities.

The primary goal for Kingston University was to improve student accommodation in response to the growing competition from new private developments across London. The updated design included new kitchen and common rooms for each cluster of flats, fostering greater social interaction and enhancing student wellbeing.

The project aimed to enhance both accommodation quality and the overall student experience. Across two sites, the total number of student rooms increased by 116, reaching 887 rooms. While the original rooms were basic and standard, the new facilities were designed with a Smart Buildings approach, allowing for future flexibility and integration of technological advancements.

At the Kingston Hill site, the number of rooms decreased as expansion was limited by the need for new shared kitchens and common rooms. However, at Seething Wells, the addition of both horizontal and vertical extensions enabled a significant increase in room capacity.
